This unique project has been in the works for over 6 years and the students of Netivot HaTorah have been given the tremendous opportunity to work with award winning professionals in Canadian theatre and music. We are working towards the development of a full scale professional production of Brundibar with Soulpepper Theatre Company, the Royal Conservatory of Music, and Luminato, Toronto's International Festival of the Arts. Soulpepper Theatre Company is in the process of creating a dramatic piece to set Brundibar in its historical context, incorporating the newly created 30 minute musical into a full stage production for Luminato 2010 in which the students of Netivot will perform.
The original Brundibar, a musical, is a beautiful anti war fable about good overcoming evil. It was written specifically for children and is most famous for its many perfomances by children imprisoned during the Holocaust in the Czech concentration camp, Terezin (Teresienstadt).
The Netivot children have been rehearsing very enthusiastically with the musical director, multiple Juno award winner, Paul Hoffert and Mei Lee the choir master, who brings tremendous energy and 6 years experience with the Canadian Opera Company to the musical teaching of our children. They are taking great delight in learning the new lyrics and arrangement that Paul Hoffert has been commissioned to create for us.
The children sound fantastic and they are looking forward to giving you a very special performance at
Netivot HaTorah's 25th Anniversary Dinner event!
